We always used to say, "dust in the wheat in the fall, mud in the oats in the spring". Good luck to you.

Yeah but we can dream can't we Randy? Wild oats can stay where they are.
Hope the GOOD oats do well this year! I might want a couple of straw bales this fall. It's really hard to find down here. |

My uncle used to say you could plant oats when you needed to burn the bags to stay warm

My grandfather on my mothers side farmed with horses until 1968 . He raised oats to feed the horses . He would broadcast oats off the back of a buckboard wagon over what he hoped would be the last snowfall of the year . Late Feb., Early March . As the snow melted it pulled the seed down . I do not remember the horses but my sister says she has photos of me propped up on them

Go to tvnz.co.nz Hyundai country calendar 2020 season episode 7 hope you enjoy.

I used the SC All-Crop Drill to seed down a new waterway. First time I've used it, was a bit of a learning curve. The grass seed I have is pretty coarse. It kept clogging up. Got the seeding done, was a good learning day, much easier next time I'm sure.
