Ok so I have a old h3 dozer we got running the left side track will pull but the right won’t took the clutch access plates off noticed the sprocket is loose but the axle doesn’t look broke but it won’t pull on that side any thought would be greatly appreciated

Not sure just know the sprocket is pulling away from the housing I’ll check it out tomorrow and get back to you on that

It's been a long time since I had this problem. There is a little spring clip that holds the axle stub to the steering clutch pack. Releasing the clip allows the axle stub to slide towards the center and out of the clutch pack splines. This allows you to lift the steering clutch pack out of the housing for repairs without taking the final drive off. My clip came off and the drive axle slid in and I was getting no power to the one track. Easy fix. Clip should be laying in the bottom

if your talking about the lower sprocket then you may have a serious problem jack that side up and see if there is any movement it that sprocket. there should be none. if there is then you will need new bearings. if a bearing goes bad it will create a friction due to alignment that the clutch can not work with. there is a clip that holds the inner shaft onto the clutch housing but it doesn't have anything to do with the pinion shaft to the outer drive its just to release the inner shaft so you can pull the shaft inward to gest just enough clearance to remove the clutch pack. im going off my h4 experience and I think there the same. tell us what you find

when you replace the outer seal you have to use a coupe of washers and use the nut to pull the seal in place so you probably have 3/8 or less clearance. if you look inside underneath you will see a round cap. under there is a large nut the hold the shaft tight against the bearings. people tend to forget to check the oil in those reservoirs which if run dry will eventually destroy the bearings and possibly the outer case.

Sprocket is spline fit to bull gear , clutch sets on small first reduction gear shaft .
Both parts are next to impossible to find if teeth are damaged - I had to replace both on my HD4 and found used parts taken from a machine where dealer replaced because of chips on gears. Outboard bearing on mine ate into case and I had to have case machined for new bearing seat to hold the roller bearing cup. $400 machining cost and a steel insert fitted into case |
