Found that on my own. Learned a little I didn't know, but was surprised at how much I did know.

For background, for those of us living in east central MO, AM station KFAL in Fulton MO has been playing that stuff for years. Back when Ron Lutz did the morning show in the 70's and 80's, he signed on at 6 AM with a rooster crowing, followed by the sound of a train going by, followed by Star Spangled Banner. Then it was Ron.....the 500 pound round mound of sound.......and ......"good morning, gooood morning.......gooooooood morning"!

From 6AM to 7AM is was the old timey hill billy stuff, including Mother Maybelle......Jimmy Rogers and a host of others like the Stringbean, Grandpa Jones, Minnie Pearl, Kitty Wells, etc. Even after 7 AM, you were going to hear the old stuff from the likes of Bob Wills, Earnest Tubb and even guys like Slim Whitman (savior of the world in "Mars Attacks"), along with whatever was on the then modern era charts.

So I was taken to School by old Ron.......make that a one room country school.

It was one of the very few commercial stations that also played Riders in the Sky and Asleep at the Wheel, which in the PBS show were represented by Doug Green and Ray Benson. Not many stations today play any of their stuff, yet there those two were........important enough to be included on the show.

By comparison, modern era Country sucks pondwater.........I refuse to listen to it. Thankfully, KFAL is still on the air and a few others have picked up the format of the older stuff from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's.

Looking forward to more from PBS.

PS: Ron Lutz also played the Dolly Parton version of "Mule Skinner Blues"..........have heard it hundreds of times. Other than on PBS.....it's the only place I have heard it.

Yes......went into a pretty deep summary of what went on at Bristol.

First program was only from start of recording industry in 20's to just up to the Depression and death of Jimmy Rogers. 2 hours.....commercial free.

Those were the good days of country music. Good southern gospel music is my favorite but I like the old country also. Wish I could find a good radio station around here that played either one or a mix of both most of the time. Many years back I visited Tootsie's Orchid Lounge in Nashville where Hank, Sr. went to "recharge" between performances at the Grand Ole Opry, lots of history in that place. He could slip out of the back door of the Ryman Auditorium go across the alley and into the lounge.

Yep, really good series to watch. It's on Iowa P B S with episodes 6, 7 and 8. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings this week. Wish I'd been smart enough to put in a disc and record it all, a lot better than most of "stuff" on TV lately.
