I have a hd5g that i just finished restoring. I have been working it without the counterweight and noticed it is very much needed. Has anyone put 2 counterweights on? I am ready to put the first one on, wondering if a second one is needed. I do have another, slightly smaller. Thanks

I think 1200-1500 pounds is about right, according to what I have read and been told

The large Iron block on back of my 7G is estimated at over a ton.

My HD5G has 2 counter weights on it - a larger thick one inside and one about 3/4 thickness next on outside - both have a rod cast into top of cutout for lifting them.
Two weights I would say in many cases is a little light if working heavy soil - but for most use with the 1 yard bucket it's OK . Backing up in soft ground with bucker about 2 ft high it will tend to transfer weight to front idler so keeping bucket low when reversing is best . Problem now is most new trucks have high sides and unless you dig a depression for them to back into you neen a ramp to load them . So now if loading I use the AC 715B TLB .
