I noticed an American flag on a pole this morning. I had the stars in the field of blue, the customary white stripes BUT instead of red stripes, they were black. Can someone explain the significance of the black stripes? There were no other flags on the same pole nor anywhere else on their lawn. Just looked odd to me.

did it by chance have one blue or red stripe?  Around here, a flag as you describe which has only one blue or red stripe is often flown in memory of a police officer or firefighter that has been killed.   This past week was police memorial week, so it could have been for that.

I thought those flags were part of the "back the blue" movement?

The offshoot of the Black Lives Matter / The Blue Lives Matter answer as it seems cops are the only one's killing blacks - well except for each other as it seems black on black crime and deaths are in far greater numbers - but hay when you need to blame someone for your own problems - look for someone else to blame
