 Topic: 5050 Operator controls

My uncle just bought a 5050 mfwd with loader. He doesn't yet have an owners manual, and is wondering about the lever on the left side of the trans under the dash. The linkage goes into the belhousing near that of the foot clutch linkage. I looked at the AGCOparts site. I can't see the pictures since I can't get the required viewer program to load on my computer. The parts site index lists hand and foot clutch. Is this lever a hand clutch, or something to do with the PTO. The sales brochure lists a dual clutch for this model, but doesn't explain what that means. Thanks.

Do you have access to an owners manual? If not I have a new one I could send you, $30 shipped to you. I don't see the lever you are talking about in the book but I am just looking at pictures.

it is the pto clucth there is another lever directly on top of the transmission it is the pto level to engage the pto into the drive train. to engage the traimission pull the lever on the left side up and the lever on top of the transmission slide it to the right pull the lever on the side down and the pto is engaged the 5050 have a two stage clutch for the pto

AND be sure that pto is out of gear and the clutch disengaged when not in use or it will burn out your pto clutch.

I am confused about the pto clutch lever. My operating manual says on pg 40 that the pto clutch lever must be in the engaged position(down) when the pto is not in use. You say the opposite. Which is right?

What is right is to never run the tractor with the lever in up or disengaged position.When its in that position it puts pressure on the flywheel which pushes the crankshaft forward then the thrust washers wear out and drop in the oil pan and then the crankshaft wears against the block wearing them both out.Oliver 1365 has the same set up I bought a 4WD 1365 and the lever had been run up it was amazing how much it wore the crank and block both were junk we put in another block and crank from a parts tractor.

Thank you Gary. That seems clear. When I bought the tractor the lever was in the up position for god knows how long. I will run it with the levery horizontal as you say and as the manual says. Thank you.
