Looks like you need a .243.  Don't use anything smaller- it'll just make them mad.
Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest.

Rather have them than Raccoons.

Neither one is desirable! Groundhogs are a little more stealthy, coons leave evidence everywhere!

I took two rabid racoons out of the yard last year, middle of the day, grandkids playing in the yard, on two different occasions one came wobbling into the yard, short barreled 12 guage with buckshot, 12-20 feet.
I am still confident of this;
I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
Wait for the Lord;
be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. Ps 27

Raccoons = thousands of dollars damage to some of my boats
Groundhogs = no damage they don’t climb, they just run and hide. But now with Rex the Great Dane neither are a problem. GOOD BOY! REX!!!

Both are good to eat but I prefer groundhog. However, young fried coon is hard to beat.

When I was young I had a Great Dane, most fun dog I ever had! Like living in a Marmaduke cartoon. He was HARD on the coon population!

My late great boxer mix Mr. Marbles was the best ground hog killer I ever had. The used to tunnel under the barn. He would lay about 75 yards away and watch them intently. If one got far enough away from the barn. He would run down and cut them off from their hole under the barn and their time on this earth was short at that point. He nailed 8 one year. Pretty much had them eradicated from that farm. Sure miss that dog.

They wouldn't be so bad except they dig holes under the shed floor and around the foundation of the other out buildings.

I used to believe that too, till I watched my miniature Dalmatian tree one once. I had to shoot it out of the tree with a .22. Once it hit the ground it was all over with.
