I have purchased a few cases of Rust Oleum Farm Equipment spray paint "Allis Chalmers Orange". I have about 3 good coats of primer on, and about 2 coats of AC Orange on the tractor. However, It's not shiny like I have seen in person on others or in pictures of others that have been restored. Does anybody recommend a good gloss top coat that won't mess up the base layer? :)
(I ask because because I bought a can of high gloss lacquer top coat, and after a few seconds of spraying on a part, it bubbled the paint and when I went to quickly wipe it off, it took the thin layer of orange off too!

Is the clear compatible with the primer and color? i.e. same brand? I have had similar problems also with the time between coats. Directions likely say recoat within 1 hour or wait 48 hours before spraying.

So no - It was actually a different brand. However, we are talking days after between clear coating and the initial spray.
The bubbling up the paint, really worried it. It took me A LONG time and actual sand blasting to get it completely cleared and cleaned of old paint. Then to go back and primer and color. :) Just nervous now.

bhaynes,
I have seen that happen too! Seems those clear coats can be nasty to the base coat. If you found a clear cost in the same brand it might work? No fun when you spend all that time and have the top coat ruined. Regards, Chris

Lacquer thinner is gonnna peel off the enamel paint, You can use Lacquer primer and enamel paint but not the other way around.
Im far from a pro but Expect You would have to let the Rustoleum setup for months then buff it out to get the automotive paint shine many tractors have these days.

your probably going to have trouble getting a rattle can top coat to look like enamel sprayed from a gun connected to an air tank..
If you use ENAMEL paint, you probably need to look for ENAMEL clear coat... Like mentioned, LAQUER basically dissolves most other types of paints.

Like them all, but love the "B"s.
