    Posted: 13 Apr 2019 at 7:32pm
My 200 was jumping out of third. I replaced the shifter fork which was broken and the 185 shifter rod and the detent springs and added the other springs that Dr Allis recommended. Still jumping out of third going downhill but not as bad and I can hold gear shift and it tries but won’t jump out. I replaced with all AGCO parts. I thought the gears looked ok I was surprised at reverse and can’t believe it doesn’t jump out as bad as it looks. What do I do next to fix the problem?

I bought what I thought was the improved 185 shift rod that would do that?

The improved 3/4 shift rod shifts deeper into 4th gear, which is a good thing. For a deeper shift into 3rd, you'll have to modify it yourself.

Fourth gear did do better and didn’t jump at all. How do I modify it for third? I read in the service manuel of the different ways to check the measurements and then it said to bend the forks accordingly? Is this what I need to do?

Bending the forks is a bad idea and will compromise 4th gear engagement. Weld the 3rd gear detent on one end and regrind the detent 1/8" for deeper engagement.  Shift cover dowel bolts go in the left front and right rear corners.

Yes I put the dowel bolts in the right place. So the improved 185 shift rod still needs to be modified?

I agree with the Dr. I just did one for a 200 last year and it fixed it.

The late 185 shift rail had a deeper engagement of 4th gear. Third gear may still need to be also made deeper (if you are having trouble), which A-C or D-A or AGCO hasn't done. Tractor transmissions are like women...……..no two are exactly the same. Now, if you wanted to modify your old shift rail TWICE, you could do that. I have always chosen to get the best parts I can and change them if needed.

Is it possible for me to send you the old one to modify and then I will remove the new one and send it to you also? I am trying not to have the tractor down long.

Yes, I can do  that. My address is Jack Proffitt   1544 Old Mulkey Rd.  Tompkinsville, Ky. 42167  It will run $75.00 plus shipping. I usually charge $150.00 if you send the whole trans top. If you don't care mark the groove that needs changing. Without having the trans top here I might get it mixed up. Thanks
