Been bored to tears as I retired so decided I would start doing ALL the service work on the Farm machines, had always done the 180 and 7G but tended to drop the car and truck and the mowers to others to give me MORE free time that I no longer(I Thought) needed.
Well come last week, Serviced the 7, then the 180 all done easy and slick. Serviced pickup and then brought in the mowers. Changed oil old 6hp Briggs easy enough, cleaned plug, sharpened blade, straightened all the tins the wife had beaten to a pulp and Bam! Busted right off. One down, next is Wifee-poo's favorite, was her Mom's old push mower, Briggs 5.5 on a Lawn Boy, NO drain plug, have to dump out thru the fill tube, made a mess, sharpened blade, NEW plug as old one too rough and that evil machine took stuffing a rag in the intake to get enough choke to get it running, POS!!. OK Two down, last but not least the Wife's Deere(hack, cough cough feel sick) but did get all the filters and did the service, not too tough, Yanmar diesel, 2305 tractor. Dropped deck out, new belt, cleaned it all up, sharpened the rock slingers under it(She mows the driveway too, at least across it). Then replaced the busted off rear warning lights, easy enough. Did not flash, tail works and flasher clicks, no flash. Pull the dash cowl, that was cracked to hell, ordered replacement($230), found the flasher, Deere ONLY oddball, bought replacement ($81), well still no flash. Get online, found wiring diagram, WTH, Diodes ALL OVER the lighting system. Dig and un-tape what have to, find the diodes, five visible, NOT one of the big Blue ones, one of the itsy bitsy little black buggers, swap them and determine it is bad, call Deere, $20 EACH! PERFORATED BOVINE they are a tad proud of this stuff. Just WOW!! ![]() ![]() Edited by DMiller - 06 Apr 2019 at 12:56pm |

Was trying to find a decent Kubota when bought this, could not pass the price on a 2010 2305 Deere at $10k, 60" deck, loader and service records for all its years. Kubota similar age and equipped stayed at or near 12-14k

I just replaced a flasher unit in my JD Gator with a standard automotive one that had the right plug ins an amps. It was a square plastic that melted, new a round tin one.I never checked how valvable Deere thought it was. I don't use it as much as I should but so far it flashes.

Probably less wire, less enganearing and less frustration with a old Signal Stat switch and a regular flasher, last forever. Also LESS Money!!
Out of all that stuff on that board, the actual 'Flasher' relay is the right square black unmarked box. Edited by DMiller - 07 Apr 2019 at 8:08pm |

Same as always, Nothing is Like a Deere and Run like one when offered to buy one. Likely last Deere we may ever own and will have it until it self destructs.

well as pop said, if you can afford to buy a caddy, you can afford to pay for the repairs ! That 3 pin diode looks familar , I replaced one in a backhoe for 50 cents, well free really, I have 1,000+ on a 'tape' for autoinsert, so whatever 50 cents/1000 is. The flasher for $81 is about $100+ Canucks, Yeesh... I suggest you save the dead one and have a 'tech' reverse engineer it with regular parts or repair it, they ain't that complicated. Jay

Took that flasher to a friend that does, STILL does electronics repairs, Five popped diodes or minichips on the back side, one bad capacitor on the up side and the relay is toast, just parts to repair it close to $40, then labor, said toss it junk. As to that three legged double diode, he could not find anything close in his books, likely Proprietary to Yanmar/Deere.
If happens again will look into plain Jane make it do simpler parts and build myself. That or trade this mower in. |
