TSC has them the cheapest, they are built good. can't remember the brand right now, the Land Pride units are good ones too. the thing to check on them is the adjustment door, how is it made to make adjustments? and how long would it take to rust up. don't get the ones that the spinners and flanges are poly, they are not accurate.

I still have my Daddy's Old Hurd. It is very, very rusty but still works. One of these days I should restore it in his memory. Being the settings chart is a plastic sticker it could almost pass for new. Dad bought this spreader new in 72. Being I sold Dads Cultipacker I need Retire this Hurd spreader.

For large grass seed or fertilizer the cheap ones work ok. For small seed like alfalfa or clover or timothy Herd is my choice. They cost more but are well built and accurate. Keep in mind the cheaper ones are a SPREADER and the good ones are a SPREADER/SEEDER.

Name escapes me but have had one of the red Italian jobs for about 5 years now. Most run 5-600.00 but plenty out there used for 3-400.00. I use mine for over seeding pastures after running an old no-till fixed at 20" spacing. Helps to run something over the seed after broadcasting to get a better seed contact and I run a 8' Brillion mulcher tucker. Grease it at the gear box after rinsing with water and blow it out with air hose and let it air dry. I spray any rotating parts with a couple cans of cheap spray vegetable oil for storage.

Yup, Carroni is it. They must have shipped a boat load (literally) over about 6-7 years ago as those things are everywhere it seems. Many of the farm and ranch box stores seem to carry that brand.

last time I seeded alfalfa, I used one of them lawn spreaders that hold about 1 and a 1/2 bags of seed and pulled it behind my 6 wheeler, did about 6 acres and it worked great! spread it just before a rain and you don't hafta harrow it in. did the same with clover seed. them spreaders are about $125. a 2 wheel unit.

We have an old John Deere C 381. I don't think they have made them in decades but if you can find one it is a much better spreader than anything from Tractor Supply.

I have a red "Italian" spinner.When spreading the small seeds I mix fertilizer with the seed for volume then calibrate accordingly.Works fine for cheaper clover and grass seed. Expensive perennial forages get seeded with a melroe 204.
