 Topic: Roto baler serial number

Hey everyone, just pulled a roto baler out of a tree line in Brimson, Missouri. It was buried over the axle, only about 2 inches of the wheels out of the ground. The serial number is 10675S, that makes it a 1949. Does anyone know what the S means. I have a 50 and 52 but they have no letter in the serial number. Hope someone can shed some light on the letter. Thanks.

Finally found out what the S in the serial number designates. Allis made some balers with the pick-up deck made out of aluminum. Those have an S attached to the serial number, assume for Special but nobody is for sure. Also no one seems to know why they only made a few out of aluminum, possibly cost and availability.

Hey Mack, does your serial number have an S at the end? Are farm is in Milburn. We baled 20,000 bales a year in the 70s with a roto baler. I am currently in the Asheville NC area. I brought this down here to take to shows and demonstrate how they work. Most people here have never seen one. I have a 50 WD to run it with. Is yours in working order? Ben

I pulled out of this tree line in October. Got it cleaned up and greased, just turned it over for the first time last week. It was stuck, the slip clutch in the pto gave several times before it finally broke loose. Everything seems to be working, with a new set of belt I will try and make some bales.

Mine was in working order when it was parked. Will check # later. There was so many semi loads hauled into this part of country and header didn't end up on same bailer it originally was on. MACK

That makes sense, they were very common in that area. We bought several over the years we were using it for parts. My Nephew runs the farm now and he said it is still common to see them at sells going from 25 to 100 dollars. I know there was a number 10 bought in Bethany a few years back.

Hey Tucker, the WD45 and D17 were great tractors. With PS did it have a wide front end too. We had a WD45 but ran the baler with a Ford 901 diesel with a live clutch, much better on fuel.
