I have a question regarding a single action cylinder. Can a barge wagon with a single action cylinder be used on a tractor that has dual hydraulic ports on it? I realize that a single action uses pressure to extend the hydraulic ram and releases the pressure through a spring action. Can this be done with a tractor that has more than one hydraulic valve? Thanks

In order for any hyd cylinder to work pressure is supplied to side of piston for the direction it is to travel . 
 The opposite side is relieved of any restriction to allow this travel . 
 In a single action cylinder - the opposite side is open to atmosphere - as it extends - on retraction the fluid below is just bypassed back to reservoir (through valve body) -
 So the question becomes will the valve body relieve flow - most will 
On my IH -460 utility - the valve body has a separate internal control for single or dual action cylinders that is selected by a external fixture on valve body

It worked fine for all the wagons the neighbors had when I was a teen. One had JD and the other had Oliver tractors.  Hook the hose to one of the 2 ports and move the lever. If it goes up , you move the lever the other way to lower it. If it doesn't go up, you guessed wrong and had to switch directions Wink
