I’m looking to plant a couple acres of beets next year. With the wedding also taking place next year I won’t have a lot of spare time to plant the beets. When I look for a planter/seeder to sow beets, all I really find are corn planters. Where would I find a planter/seeder to sow beets? Would a corn planter do the job?

Maybe a sorghum plate would work on beets with a corn planter. Also a Planet Jr planter will plant about anything.

I hear John Deere combines sow seed real well! ![]() I have one of the little walk behind planter that would work, but it would take some time for that much. Google: walk behind garden planter It shows TSC even sells a little three point planter. |

Here is your small Allis planter, but not sure what to do about the plates for it. Sugar beets or garden beets? How far off is a soybean plate for beets?

If you can find a Planet JR planter, it will do the job. Lots were made for G tractors, some are 3 point, problem with eatin beets, is the seed is so small, you have to spend an inordinate time, thinnin the beets. You could also bolt together a coupla 3 or 4 earthway seeder planters, together, to make a bed unit. The bigger growers in vegetable biz use air planters or a specialty planter, maybe a wilton, or something like that...

Yup.......pretty far off. ![]() Moral to the story was I did a search on my local CL for "2 row planter" and a whole bunch of them turned up, including 2 or 3 Allis 2 row planters. And going further, in almost every CL I checked, something similar came up. So the planters are out there and many of them for $500 or less. It seems most are used for commercial gardens or food plots. Good to see some guys recycling no longer used 6 and 8 row planters into something others want to use. They are doing the same with old grain drills. Would hate to see them all done like that, but better to recycle them than let let a tree grow up through them in some abandoned fence row or sell them by the pound for scrap. But as for the plate, still not sure if he was talking about sugar beets or garden beets to eat. |

'Nother Idea occurs to me (see the smoke?) If you check auctions, and craig's list, in NJ, you may likely find what you want. The ones that will plant beets, won't be real cheap, though, as this small equipment seems to be in high demand, in MJ, DE, And the Eastern Shore of MD...
