Got the new to me 7045 running the other night. Plowed with it for a little while to get her breathing a little bit. It stalls if I throttle up and down too fast. I'm concerned it might do this on the road when I throttle down. My 7020 seems to do something similar but always "catches" it's self before stalling out. Is this a common problem with a common solution?

sticking metering valve can cause under running and stalling when letting off throttle rapidly. I've been around a lot of tractors with DM4 pumps and it seems they are more prone to doing it, maybe it's because the older ones had a larger 3/8" diameter valve. Could be why they went back to 1/4" metering valves in later DM's, and all DB4's which replaced DM4's. My own 7040 does it, too. Doesn't die, but acts like it's going to. That one has had some modifications made to it though lol!

Have seen more problems that way with 7000-301 than 7030 up with 426 for some reason. MACK

Sticking metering valves are a growing issue with the new fuel with all the 'stuff' taken out . We have solved about 50% of the problems by adding about --- no wait this is an open forum... what ever you do- do not add about a quart of automatic trans fluid (Dextron 2 or whatever it is now) as in 1 gal per 50 gals of fuel - run this out then add about a qt of motor oil per 50 gals - do this about once a year - again this is not an EPA recommendation.... the other means is to pull pump to[ cap - governor linkage - and metering valve and lightly polish it with cleaner such as comet as an abrasive - reinstall and make sure it is free. We have found that pulling the top and "jiggling" the metering valve seldom works but is worth a try if you do not feel comfortable pulling it out and cleaning.

my 7020 used to do that when I first had it running, the more I ran it and used it with fuel lubricants in it, it quit doing it all the time down to just a few times now and then

Try 1 qt of cheapo 2 stroke oil per 32 gal of fuel or 1oz per gallon.

under-running and catching itself is kinda typical on tractors with DM pumps, White 2-135/155 seem the worst. Heavy crank/rods/pistons etc. Under-running and dying is a sticking mv issue. The larger 3/8" MV takes more effort for the governor to move. Setting the low idle up to 800 can help it not stall.
