I usually like this guy's videos but today's drove me nuts. He has been working on a WD and doesn't understand the hydraulic system. Watch and then read the rest of my post below. [TUBE]QtHym7yTTB0[/TUBE] He says he doesn't read the comments on his channel any more but has commented that he checks the forums so I hope he sees this and the well of knowledge that is this forum is able to offer some help. ChuckE, if you see this, I do have a pump that I am willing to sell. Secondly, Sandy Lake Implement will rebuild your current pump for you. They are an advertiser on this site and did mine and my PTO gearbox for a fair price and in a fairly short amount of time. I think he needs to know why the lift arms are not dropping also. If I remember correctly the pump is not in the lift and lower position and may be in the drawbar control position. Also the delayed lift position is for mounted cultivators so the fronts lift as you come to the end of a row and the backs have a delay so they can reach the end of the row. ChuckE2009 is Lance that started way back before high school on YT! He is a bright fellow and does lots of videos. I built him a head for his first Allis B that he started on after lawn mowers. I think he found a nitch to bring more people to subscribe to his channel by wondering what is next! I bet you will look again wondering if he will figure it out. Most likely along with others on this site. Manufactures of tooling keep track of his site as well and send him stuff to review. A video a day keeps the bill collectors away! ![]() |

He'll have to reconsider "Worst Design" from hydraulics to brakes if he ever does a brake job on that tractor, lol!

Nothing like taking a simple job and turning it into a complicated one.If he can't understand the manual about the hydraulic system then a good remedial reading comprehension course might be the charm.

I enjoy his videos, but some are just frustrating to watch. I like that he's out there gathering tractors and working on them, but some things he does and says just shows he could stand to do a little more reading and slow down.
If you see comments under that video from "James Hough", that's me.

I also remember when Lance came on YT. His problem is his head swelled faster than his knowledge, an expert at anything he touches. Watched about 20 seconds of the video and had enough. His take on the WD hydraulic system? Makes no difference that 250,000 ignorant farmers figured out how to use it back in the day, nor that it is 70 years old, nor that he is hydraulically clueless. He cant figure it out so it's junk,,, I wont take away from him that he has figured out how to make bucks the easy way by BSing the masses on Youtube.

I liked his welding videos, but he's out of his league when it comes to farming. In one episode he bought a big round baler and took it in the shorts royally. I don't watch him anymore. South Main Auto Repair is better. He doesn't do tractors, but he knows how to fix a car.

I'll still watch. His fairly frequent rants about carburetors and magnetos make me shake my head, though. A clean, adjusted carb and a good magneto can really make life simple.

I just found South Main Auto's channel and you are right he knows how to
fix a car. And he makes it seem like with a little courage and
confidence, anyone can do it too. Eric O would make a great auto shop
teacher.

I watched this video last night and found myself wanting to scream at the screen. "That's not the right place for hydraulic oil." I'll be the first to admit that I'm no expert. But I at least know how to read a manual or ask around to find out what I don't know or understand. I'll give him credit for trying, and I don't want to sound like I'm just talking trash. But this was embarrassing, or it would have been for me. I started watching some of his videos hoping to pick up a few tips and tricks for my own project but I've given up on that now. I really hope he can either learn to read the manual or get the help he needs before he completely destroys a perfectly good tractor. I'd like to have one this nice, so watching him ruin this one is painful..P.S. I wondered how many forum members might see his video, or if there would be a post about it today.
Later, Brad

I don't think there is a connection between the IQ of the posters on Youtube and and the number of views they get.I'll bet those taking the Tide Pod Challenge get a lot more views than good mechanic videos.

Agreed, ![]() All a person has to do is pick a subject that they do know something about and punch it up on You tube and then decide for themselves if viewership equates to knowledge. Outside of a precious few the bulk of the ones who know what they are talking about dont get the big viewership, the BSer's with a fancy presentation get the viewership of which, sorry to say, he is one of. Even in his claimed forte which is welding he started making videos about it when he was darn near clueless. As I said I admire that he makes good money posting videos, he isnt collecting a welfare check. Actually watching one now and them is a good reality check,, its on the internet, it has to be true??

He rants about things that he knows little about. Why mention the WD hydraulics when he obviously hasn't read the operators manual? I like to watch people who know what they are doing and learn from them. He has a bunch of unfinished projects laying around. Did he ever finish with the Ford tractor? I think he finished the Zetor tractor, but that was it. Even there he didn't do much. He brought in his mechanic buddy to do the work for him. After all that, he buys a new Kubota and piddles on his small acreage. He must have gotten a steep discount on that tractor just for featuring it on YT. |

I actually have only watched 4 or maybe 5 of his videos all the way thru. I did subscribe to his channel to look at his viewer counts. I like Lance and have from his start on YT. He was in a broken home and crying out for help. Many on YT jumped in with Richard being one of the leaders in trying to give him direction. When he figured something out on any subject Lance wanted to tell everyone. He did it in video's. He developed a talent in making videos when he was to young to get compensation. He took up a trade in welding while in high school and with his videos attempted to show every one what he learned. Thru this he was able to get free equipment to review that equipment in his videos because of the interest in what he was doing that drew massive view counts. If you read this site and YT daily as I do you see people that start working on tractors that they are so over their heads and come here for help. When you try to help thru many posts you find they have hid from the opening post parts of their attempts before asking. Lance has an uncommon desire to learn and has no fear of trying anything and showing everyone the mistakes he makes going into the unknown. Most on here have learned the most over the years thru their mistakes. It is called do overs with head down and lips sealed. I feel that Lance has figured that out and cashing in on the fact that people learn from his mistakes. I thought when he was a teenager as his videos were getting better in quality that some time he would have a high paying TV show like some of the car shows show and still do!

I would never say he is dumb. It's clear to me from watching his videos (apart from Youtube fame and fortune) that he is certainly not dumb. What is frustrating to me is that as a younger, older guy (late 40s) with sons of my own, what I would really like to do is see him listen to some people who have "been there, done that". It makes life simpler. I know he'll get there on this project. Some of the pronouncements about what is horrible and poorly designed and whatnot show that he hasn't taken the time to study and understand what he is working on. That happens....but it costs time, frustration and money.

I had talked to him years ago when he was working on some tractors. After a while I found him to be a little disrespectful to those trying to be sincere and helping him out. He was one of the people that inspired the quote that pops up on my posts.
I remember one of his videos where they couldn't afford the payments on the little Kubota tractor they had and it was going to be repossessed, so his answer was to take it out in the mud and get it filthy and leave it stranded in the middle of the muddy area where he had been screwing around with it. I was taught that you don't treat things that way and you man up to your mistakes. I really dislike the name of the video "Single worst design I have seen on a tractor". What I see is his lack of patience and ignorance towards the system. I think he does a good job with the welding videos what he is knowledgeable on the subject.

Been watching him for a few years. Pretty cool and informative. Yeah, he is not an expert on everything, but nonetheless, he is entertaining and educational most of the time.
As a side note, I like his buddy mechanic Steve that he connects with sometimes. |

Been watching for awhile. The WD-45 videos have been a little weird (doesn't like the hydraulics? I also think he had the firing order wrong in the earlier videos which is why it was running bad when he was trying to time it). His welding stuff is great though. And definitely agree that I like Steve and onelonelyfarmer.

...and yes, this is about the comments on the WD45 videos. I get it. It's a pain to deal with trolls, but a little good-natured ribbing along with some helpful tips? It might be worth it to ignore the haters and have a sense of humor.

I didn't watch it because I dont need to and it would play into his plan. What you suggest might work if his primary motivation was to inform but since his motivation is to get views that would be working against him. Once more I am no knocking him personally and dont dislike him. Fact remains it just plain isn't a factual information channel it's about views, entertainment value and $$. That which walks like a Duck, and quacks like a Duck and looks like a Duck,, IS a Duck in my little world

This is not really what I wanted to start. ChuckE2009 has a great page. Although he can sometimes be a little...whatever you want to call him. I did not want to bash him He has stated that he does not read the comments on his site any more and has looked at this site for advice. I thought that there would be people here that can offer him some suggestions. If my post was ambiguous or passive aggressive, I apologize.

DanC911 no need to feel guilty, the video itself generates all the reaction it deserves. I think this thread has been a reasonable discussion with many good points made. I've seen some of his videos in the past and thought some of the same things well before reading this thread. He's eager and has some good intentions, but the fact is he is making mistakes that are EASILY avoided with just a few minutes of reading or listening to people who have worked on these things tens or hundreds of times. A little bit of humble pie and not bi*ching about things he refuses to learn about and just shoot in the dark and his channel would be much more fruitful. I see no point in making no effort to learn about what you're working on and just winging it, can't be much fun to work on things that way either. My 2 cents.
