I'm throwing around the idea of getting a loader for my 185.
I may have found an Allis Chalmers brand loader off a 180. I can't find a model number on it, but I assume it a 500 Are attachments like buckets or pallet forks still available new? What would be a fair price for one? How easy are they to put on and take off once all the brackets are on?

No new parts (buckets and forks) available from AGCO that I know of. They are meant to be mounted on the tractor and stay on the tractor. They are NOT a quik-tach loader. A fair price?? Hard to say and will depend on the overall condition. A new loader of any brand would be 5 to 6K I'd imagine ??

I purchased a "skid steer" quick attach system for my AC 500 loader and I love it. I have a bucket and bale spear, and can buy, barrow or rent any other skid steer attachment. I am so glad I got it. Dale

Dave I saw 1 sell at a consignment auction a couple of years ago, was not beat up or welded up. Was on a D19. It brought $500.00. I did not need it but still kicking myself for not buying it. It was a good looking loader.

I have a 500 loader with no bucket. I am being told to get a skid steer kit so I can do what you did. Would you tell me what you got, where and cost? Thank you

Grampy, I have a HLA skidsteer setup that is made by Horst Welding. Their plant is in Ontario, Canada. Their phone number is 519-291-4162. I bought mine at a dealer from a friend who was their salesman. It has been 10 years or more, and I got the quick attach bracket, a 5' bucket and a bale spear.I don't remember the exact cost, but it was around $1000. There is another company called MDS that advertises in the Fastline equipment magazine that also has these attachments. PM me it you have any specific questions. Dale

I bought my 500 about 15 years ago and it was on a 180. It went right on my 170D with ease. I paid $700 for it with a bucket. I had been looking at other loaders and they were around $2- 2500 used so I jumped on it. Been a great loader and I built a set of quick release brackets for the bucket and bale spear made changing from one to another easy. The original design is kind of a pain. Then I built a 6' bucket to go along with the 5' that came with it. In 15 years all I've had to do is rebuild one ram, I am very pleased with it.

dang I can't GIVE AWAY a #14 laoder from a D-14 let alone a D-14 WITH full hydraulic loader on it..I even made a forklift attachment for it....zero interest. either they want brand new stuff or next to free(though $0.00 I thought was free...) rant over ...

I have an AC 500 loader on a 67' One-Seventy gas & feel its a great combination for that era. Like others have replied, it is a good loader but nothing fancy. I like the under mounted double acting bucket cylinders cause they enable it to cup upwards into the pile better.
Check its bushings for excessive wear & lift rams for straightness. Lift rams are lengthy & if abused can get a slight bend so resealing them won't last but a few weeks before they begin leaking again. |

I don't have any idea of what the weight difference is. I do know that the bucket I now have is much stronger the the old AC bucket I had. You might go to MDS Manufacturing website and get some weights. Dale

The MDS website shows a dealer within a mile or so from my house. I'll find out this afternoon.

Would a Model 500 off of a 180 fit right on a 6060?
