We have a 3/4 acer pond, and I'm looking for a 1 man boat to use on it, mostly for fishing.
I'm not sure what I want. I don't think I want a kayak because you sit down inside them so far, I want something that is easy to get into and out of. I do see that some of the kayaks you sit on instead of in. How much different is that? I see some fishing boats that look like a chair on 2 rather small pontoons that look interesting but the pontoons are inflatable, I don't want a pontoon that I have to keep inflated, or can get punctured. Thanks, Dusty

Bass Pro Shops sell a plastic pontoon style that I like. I have a Jon boat but if you leave the plug in it the rain water collects and if you pull it up on the bank it kills the grass sitting there. The pontoon style I could leave tied to the dock. I have a fishing kayak too and I love it . You sit on top of it. If you are going to be by yourself the fishing kayak would be the cheapest way to go.

Get yourself a jon boat. More stable than a kayak. They have plastic and metal ones and are just over 100lbs so pretty easy to pull out and slide into water. Best thing over any type of boat is build a dock and fish from that.

I just sold a 10 ft aluminum flat bottom that would work pretty good for one person. It had 2 seats but I don't think it was big enough for 2 people. Could have easily been moved by 1 person. Probably weighed about 50 to 60 pounds

What Tyler had would be ideal for what you want. If you could prop it against a tree and tie it so the wind won't blow it over it won't kill as much grass or collect as many wasp nests.

I believe that boat new or one very similar was around $600 at Cabela's. Two oars would get you everywhere you want to go on a small pond. My grandparents had a paddle boat on their pond for a while and it worked pretty good for fishing other than no live well. The problem was it took two strong people to get it in and out of the water without tearing up the rudder

$600? I gave a friend one several years ago so he could take his 2 boys fishing. Guess he got a bargain.

I said that's what Cabela's thinks of them. I didn't say they were worth it ![]() If I was looking for one I'd go the Craigslist route |

My neighbor gave me a peddle boat last year, Kind of fun but takes a bit of work to peddle it around the pond by myself. Need to get a couple cute girls to take it out and just sit on the bank watching!

Sitting on the bank watching kind of defeats the purpose of having a boat, doesn't it? I do like your thinking, though. Darrel |

I was also given a 5 person peddle boat. It is more of a toy to play with in the water than a tool to use to fish out of.

A local here glued a bunch of styrofoam together then strapped a lawn chair to it. Foam was large enough to float a cooler and electric trolling motor as well.

Are you going to be doing this just for fun Dusty? Then what JohnCO says!! Except that would get ALL 3 of us in trouble with the little woman.....
For actual fishing, I'd go with a 10 or 12 foot flat. Easy to paddle or (what I would do) use an electric trolling motor. Fast enough, easy to use and you can take the grandkids with and have a ball. |

I just saw a pedal boat at wally world for I think $389. and if you cut the center out of the storage hatch in between the seats, you can put a electric motor in there. don't ask how I know this! lol

I sort of inherited a 5 man paddle boat. Not all that great for using it alone.

you can also take a non leaking stock tank and put a trolling motor on it, put you a small table, chair, and cooler inside. I've done this at the big lake and it works real well, won't tip over cuz there is to much suction under it. oh...i'm talking a round stock tank! you can also fit a tarp over it for shade with PVC pipe bolted to the sides. we've also gone "tanking" on a small river here in NE.

it's a no brainer Dusty! I even had carpet in mine so I didn't burn my feet on the hot bottom. I used a galvanized tank, but next time might use a blue plastic one. them trolling motors hang better on the steel galvanized tanks.

Bass Pro used to sell small fiberglass pontoons or catamarans set up for trolling motors, single seat. Used to see quite a few on CL at times but that has been awhile.

No hitch ball on the truck, must have lost the boat but kept the motor, just in case he gets in deep water! |
