    Posted: 21 Mar 2018 at 10:03am
I just replaced the voltage regulator on my D15, because the old one was not apparently working (no charge). The new one had the properly labeled connection posts - bat, F, L.
So that's the way I connected it. The F post on the generator to the F post on the regulator, and the other post on the generator to the L post on the regulator. Two posts on the generator wired to two corresponding posts on the regulator. Battery wire to bat. When I connected the wiring I did a very short flash between the bat and F terminals on the regulator. I then started the tractor and the system was charging. However, when I shut the engine off, I noticed the system was discharging strongly (amp needle way over)!
I may have had the two wires (F and L) incorrectly attached on the old regulator, but it worked that way until it didn't. When I switched the two this time (F to L etc), it didn't  discharge, but it did not charge either. Right now they are both disconnected at the regulator. What can or should I do?? HELP!

Hey Ron, F on the generator goes to F on the reg.A on the generator goes to gen or G on the regulator.Bat or B on regulator goes to battery wire.Polorizing flash is done from Batt to Gen terminals at the regulator, not to the field as you did.L Term is for light or other loads.Hope this helps.Smile

When you sent current to the "F" (field) post of the VR from the BAT post, you might have fried your new VR. NEVER jump BAT to FIELD!   Jump BAT to GEN. as ACDave said. Also, take the number off of your Generator, and have an electrical shop or Auto Parts store match the correct VR to the Generator. This way you're mating the correct VR with the existing Gennie. Also make sure you have an auxiliary ground off the VR to the chassis or Battery ground. HTH
