In the Nebraska tests the gas was a little higher than the diesel but so was fuel use.

I think it was typical for a gas to have a little more HP but the diesel had more torque. In the end they performed about the same.

Series 2 gas was raised to 46 HP and the diesel never was raised....it was still at 36 HP.

It all depends on what horsepower your looking at. Nebraska test # 635 for the gas tractor rated drawbar hp is 36.77 rated belt hp is 46.48 and maximum belt hp is 50.34. Test # 636 the diesel tractor rated drawbar hp is 35.87 rated belt hp is 45.52 and maximum belt hp is 51.14.

So the drawbar HP for a gas Series 1 is 36.7 and the diesel is 35.8 ? Makes sense that the diesel would have more torque . We have both , but the gas one's still not quite up to snuff . THANKS !!

Torque provides more power than hp. My 2007 Ram truck makes 315 hp but 650 lbs of torque. A Hemi makes 425 hp but around 325 lbs of torque. My bet is on a diesel every time. With that being said, our dad’s series II D-15 amazes us with the amount of pulling power the little power crater engine makes.
Can’t go wrong either way, unless fuel economy is a priority. The diesel wins hands down. |

And yes, 46 hp on the gas is correct, not sure about the diesel.

You can't get to 160, but I think after-market with 8 to 1 compression will get you to 155 ?? You still need a series 2 carb which is similar to a WD45 Marvel.
