I bought this 3 axle New Idea Wagon Gear from Don Bradley and have fixed the minor mechanical issues and have started with the wood decking. The gear had a hoist on it so I was lucky to find 2 nos brackets for the 3rd axle and a nos spindle for the right one that was functional but had seen better days and a few other miscellaneous bushings, etc. from Albert at Ziegler's. I was even able to find 2 older Goodyear tires to match the other 4. Thus far i have installed the 4" x 6" x 16'runners and the 4" x 6" cross braces on 4' centers. In the last picture are the 9 3" x 4" x 8' stringers that will be on 2' centers. Next will be the 1 3/4" x 8" x 16' planks. All the edge boards will be 2" thick to keep stuff from bouncing off. All the wood has had 3 coats of linseed oil. I know I overbuilt it, but I only plan to do it once. I plan to take it and my other wagon, the middle picture to a couple of shows this summer.

I'm happy to see you fixing her up right just like I knew you'd do it. Good Job!! This is not the run of the mill gear like most of them out there, if you see this N.I. wagon at a show take the time to look it and his AC wagon too.

Were these wagons just used to haul bigger loads, or were they a specialty wagon?

Michael, great job on the wood frame. I love these older running gears. I couldn't remember your gear model number, so I did a search & found your earlier post.
