Have an allis 170,and a 175. The brakes on both tractors are worn out because we forget to release them before we start driving. I was wondering if anyone has figured out a way to mount a BRAKES ON warning light on the dash.

could make one pretty easy with a small switch and bulb. just like how the light comes on in your car when the e brake is on. circuit is open when brake pedal is up, but when pushed it lets the switch ground and complete the circuit, turning on the light.

Contact switch, light bulb indicator, wire, fuse and a custom mounting bracket would work, wouldn't it?

I have taken off with the brakes set on my 170 too. I finally decided not to set the brakes unless absolutely necessary. However, a warning light or a beeper would be nice.

Years ago had a customer with a new 574 IHC that had trouble with his 80+ old Dad was forgetting to release the parking brake and it even had a factory light in the dash too, so I installed a car horn under the seat ( it was load sitting in that seat) still didn't stop the older guy from driving with the brakes on.

3 WD45's with power steering,G,D15 fork lift,D19, W-Speed Patrol, "A" Gleaner with a 330 corn head,"66" combine,roto-baler, and lots of Snap Coupler implements to make them work for their keep.

Do they lock like a D17 or a 190? If like a 190 then mount a simple switch like what is used on the clutch safety switch on the 190 or the brakes on a Gleaner L2 up by the locking lever and hooked to a light or a beeper or both. I guess the same could be done on the D17 type too but a little tougher to mount it.

I can just picture in my mind how my wife would react if I drove around the yard on my tractor with a blaring car horn. I would be trying to buy my tractor back at the auction!!!

Sounds like 'grandpa' needs a cut-off switch so you can't even start the tractor till the brakes are free...or somethiing of that sort

Thanks guys,and no,it's about 13 above here this morning. I wasn't going to take the axle off again without changing something,or i'll just get the same results. These tractors are not leaving this farm until sometime after i do.

My policy, which I learned the hard way, is if I set the brakes, I set em good and tight, so whoever, even if it's me, takes off on it, they're going to know the brakes are set. Darrel

I never set them. I leave the transmission in gear and hand clutch in either high or low range (not neutral).

If I set the brakes on the WD or 45,you won't go anywhere without unlocking them. My wife gets mad cause she can't release them.

Yea it would be possible. Put one on a forklift at work just have to figure out a type of switch to use on the forklift ended up using a round baler door close switch i believe

Don't do like Agco Massey did on park brake. If brake is set, alarm sounds until clutch is out then alarm quits. Good engineering lol. MACK
