Happy New Year friends or at least close to it.
Replacing the exhaust manifold gaskets and in the service manual there is little to no information on the exhaust manifold. Are the nuts torqued down or just tightened? If torqued down how many pounds please. Thank you. |

Now I’m jealous at you jerry. I will give my right arm to be at your stage right now. Because I’m still just looking for a manifold..
I can’t help you with turque spec, but use the standard bolt/tap spec card |

Hahahaha . If I could find you a manifold I would a happy camper. Most of my work do far is routine maintenance work and cosmetics.
You and others in our forum do such extensive work on engine and tranny internals that I get humbled. If I ever want to be reminded how much I don't know I only have to look up posts from you, AC Mel, Ricky, Cal and CO and I am reminded that nothing major better break. |

"Tighten but do not overtighten". That was the torque spec. for a Nissan I used to have.
What size bolt or stud are we talking about? |

I've looked and can't find it. Not saying it's not listed somewhere but I couldn't find any reference to it.

Hello group
I pulled out my shop manual for my 16dc to look up to see torque specs. Found that the torque spec for the exhaust manifold nuts on the 16000 engine are more than we were discussing in this string of messages. I am posting the pic out of the manual. They are saying 85 to 95 pounds. That seems pretty high to me but that is what the manual says. Any comments my valued advisors? ![]() |

I may have figured it out but please correct me friends.
My HD16DC engine plate says it is "Engine 16000 HD 16C" "Engine #4393 My tractor serial number as listed on back of tractor under the fuel tank is Serial # 5272. So by reading this paragraph below from the Service Manual, my tractor is NOT the 844 but the 16000 and as such the torque setting is more than the number listed above that for the 844 which is at 45 to 50 pounds per some of your previous statements. Am i correct. See note below. ![]() |

you have 16000. 844 is also the CU of the 16000 but was the designation for lanova engine. basically the same engine except for head design and fuel injection parts

Thank you Cal. Sure a big difference in the two torque specs for the exhaust manifold nuts.
