Is there such a thing as a 185 High Crop? I've seen pictures of a 185 and a 180 allis with rear wheels that have flat cores instead of the typical convex ones. The picture below shows what I mean. This guy is on this forum and this is a picture he took of his tractor after restoring it. There is a 180 with similar rear wheels on craigslist near where I live and I was wondering where those wheels came from.

Don't think it is classified as a highcrop. Maybe a hi clearance. It don't really look anything special in my opinion. 185 with 38s on it. Kinda like a D15 with the 28s on it.

The 'high crop' units we ordered in south La. used the tall spindle as in the D19 and 190 although the spindle housings did not have provisions for nor were the brace rods attached.
We also ordered 7.50 -20" F3 rubber on the fronts. The rears were 15.5-38 R-2-O rice tires which were taller than the R1's.   If not careful with attachments the taller tire cleats could contact 3 point attachments.

As for the Cane (HC) d15's they mostly had the 13.6-38 rice tires and the same ft spindles as the D17 for height with the 7.5 16" fronts. They usually were equipped with final drive extensions as well, D14's had the same option.

Allis put 38’s on some 185’s most people call them high clear. We have a couple for row crop farming.

It's not a high crop.  Just a regular 185 with 38" rear tires.  Good looking tractor though!

Don't miss the point of 20 inch front wheels on factory hi-clearance..have had some in the past...just regular spindles.....Mark  note...Massey wheels fit the rear but have larger bolt holes...a factory 38 inch may have studs or inside lock nuts on rear..

I agree, even a hi-clearance will have 2" taller front spindles. Top of tire will be about even with the steering arm.  BTW, I have a couple of sets of taller spindles for a 180/185 I would sell.

I think just the hi-crops came with the 20" wheels. All the hi-clearance that I have and have seen just have the 16" fronts....of course anything can be mixed over the years.

The picture above is of my Grandpa's 1974 185 that my Dad has restored.  When Grandpa purchased it from an auction, I believe it had 30's on it, but he wanted higher clearance for cultivating and spraying, so put new 38's on.  38's were a factory option, but definitely don't see as many with 38's.  We know the muffler isn't OEM, but it was what our Agco dealer had.  

Here is a current pic of the tractor with front suitcase weights added and a "new" gleaner 301 combine engine installed.  The original engine had electrolysis.

The high clearance 185 came with 15.5s on back and 750x20s on front plus a 190 front spindles that are 2 inches taller than 185s are.. No high crop.

Curiosity might get the cat...measured spindles D-17  15inches , 185 Hi Clearance 15 inches , D-19 17 inches, 190   17 inches

From my recollection, the "high clearance" tall tires were offered to use with narrow rows.
 
Run 18" down a 38" row you are okay, but run it down a 30" row and it gets crowded, so a
15" tire brings it back.
 
Try running 18" tires on 30" rows all day and the switch will be quick.

I have definitely learned a lot guys. Thanks for answering the questions and providing your insight. It's been really interesting learning about this. I had see them before and wondered why they looked different and then I thought "hey, I know where there are people who know stuff about a tractor like this". Just like that, I got the answer.
