This past harvest, it has become obvious that the 180 is is in need of a major tune up after auger duty and before planting. Planning on AC/Delco plugs, but are their any recommendations for wires, cap and rotor?? Scared to even think of getting new points(heard horror stories). Does the coil last forever or go ahead and change it out? Not looking to go the electronic ignition upgrade yet. Thanks

Go with a electronic ingestion. Points and condenser are absolute junk today.     MACK

With an electronic ignition system, is the ceramic block gizzmo bypassed?

Did our D17 IV and I think the ceramic resistor is bypassed. But the wiring diagram that is part of the package will clarify. I agree, go electronic. We bought points some time ago and they were junk as Mack stated. The points did not align (and I bought them from a vendor on this site, though most other items I bought from them were of good quality).

You wouldn't want a 6 volt coil with EI anyway. The resistor is for 6 volt coils on a 12 volt system.

Had problems with electronic ignition I put in so got a good set of points and condensor from Steve NJ (www.bb-customcircuits.com/) and it runs better than ever. I kept the Flamethrower coil I put on with the ei. Did not buy the Pertronix electronic ignition from Steve but wish I had.

The old resistor was to drop voltage across the points, reduce the damage from arcing and would not be needed for a electronic ign.

I just did the entire line except for wires on a D17.  I got the parts at a real auto parts store.  fires right off and runs nice.
