Was watching Kurtz auction in Littlestown, Pa this morning. They had a Allis D270 gas with a mid mounted cycle bar mower listed. Until I saw it, I wasn't aware they made any of the English tractors with gas engines. I assume it's a 225 cu in. Will be making the trip to Colorado soon, I hope. I'd bought a JCB wheel loader on Ebay from them a couple weeks ago and fortunately they hadn't found a truck heading this far west yet so both machines will make the trip.

John, Congratulations!! I am certain that it was an appealing item or you would not have bought it. Frankly, I have no knowledge of this unit and can supply no input as to your purchase.
Can we see some pictures. Best of luck with your new find. Good Luck! Bill Long ps: John, After making this post I went to tractor data to obtain information. Frankly, it has the appearence of a Wide front CA. Power about 27, engine size 125.1 cu in. Would love to see a picture of the tractor with the mower mounted. Could be similar to a #5 mower which was a CA mounted mower that looked like the B-C mower. Edited by Bill Long - 10 Nov 2017 at 1:47pm |

That would be a 125 cu.in, not 225. They are unique, I have two of them imported from NZ. They have the features of a B, C and CA combined. Could have sold one to you and had half the distance

John, The Tractor Data sheet that Gary posted above also lists a kerosene version for the D 272. Looking at the picture of the tractor that you posted it looks like it has the small fuel tank for starting on gas then switching to kerosene. You may have something more rare than you realized! Let us know when you get it out there and can tell us more about it.

That's a cool looking tractor! I think the road trip only adds to the enjoyment of getting it. Embrace it. Enjoy it!

Thanks for the positive words everyone! I've already paid to have the JCB hauled out here so I hope getting the little Allis on the truck won't cost me too much more. Back in the old days when the DOT's were less intense, I probably would have jumped in my 6V71 powered Chevy 70 and headed east. Now I leave the driving to the smiling cat on TV, was that Sunny Pruit? I plan on talking to the seller to see if he has any knowledge of the tractor or knows who is the previous owner. Guess I'll get the SN when it gets here, maybe in the next couple weeks?
In looking at the pictures more closely, it does look like there is a separate tank under the hood, can't see the carb or manifold to get a better idea if it is a karo engine. I see it still has the "number plate" (license plate) bracket on the back. The big question I have is why is there a striker on the front tire? Does it run on acetylene? I saw one cutting hay with a mower just like the one on this tractor, so I guess they aren't that rare in England or Europe. I'd never heard of them before I saw this on on the sale bill. Looking at the tractor data, it really sounds like the perfect tractor, 4 speed, snap coupler, 12 volt system, live power. It could have a lever like a CA for the live power but even that is a whole lot better then a B or C. In any event, I may be the only D270 in Colorado, even more rare then my RC.
