Can the R62 rotor gearbox be removed without first removing the rotor?

I don't think so. Bolts the remove box are from inside the cage.

Unless there is some trick we didn't know about, be prepared for battle.  It is one heavy sob and not easy to finagle it down out of there.  or back in

there is a door right above it - a hoist or come=along hooked to a bar above the box on the grain bin top makes it easier - DO NOT FORGET THE GEARBOX IS SHIMMED - MARK THE SHIMS AND PUT THE BACK IN THE OEM LOCATIONS OR ELSE THE SHAFT WILL NOT LINE UP WITH THE FAR END BEARING.

A forklift would make the job easier. When I worked at west plains imp, I pulled lots of rotors, and a fair jag of gear boxes. Me and a co-worker who had plenty of experience, start to finish, had a rotor setting on the ground in 9 minutes one time. When it come to pulling gear boxes, I made a pole that I put on one forklift tooth. Had to get it in at just the perfect position, and it could be brought right down and out. Pull out the oil fill plug on the top of the gear box, and weld a ring onto it, and re-install it, and use that for a lifting point. Darrel

We just finished putting a new gearbox in the R62 , I did not remove the rotor opened the cage got the back bolts out cover on side of combine to take off got a few more ,opened rock door and got the rest from going up inside from the bottom. And it really helps if you can find a skinny young guy to go up inside from the bottom! It can be done ,we just did it.
