I am interested in this tractor http://https://macon.craigslist.org/grd/d/1949-allis-chalmers/6351843792.html Can someone familiar tell if this is a true widefront C? Also, are widefront Cs rare? How rare? This looks like a nice example, a bit too expensive, but nice. Would $3000 be more appropriate?

corrected link https://macon.craigslist.org/grd/d/1949-allis-chalmers/6351843792.html ..................................................... standard C had tricycle front end. That looks like a normal C wide front end. $2,000 would be a more realistic price. Edited by Gary - 22 Oct 2017 at 4:48pm |

Thanks for correcting the link Gary. I'd be very interested at $2K. I plan to call.

Seems to be a nice restoration and he probably has close to $4500 in it but I don't think he will get that out of it unless someone comes along that wants it real bad. Make him an offer, he might just take it ti recover part of his investment. I just came up through Macon headed home from Moultrie Thursday afternoon.

I have a good wide front end for a C and throw the tractor (not running) in for $400.
And as a bonus you can have the sickle bar mower on it too! |

I spoke with the owner this evening. Nice older gentleman. He dropped the price to $3500 right over the phone. It has brand new tires, tubes and rims. I know it's overpriced, but I want to look it over. I may head up this weekend. Thanks for the input.

Take a trailer and the money with. $3500 isn't that far from $3000. It looks good has all new tires and dosent apear to be leaking anywhere. A C isn't much of a working tractor and not worth much, but it was the best looking tractor Allis ever made. There is very little to go wrong so your just buying a toy that'll last a long time.

I don't see any hydraulics. It would be nice if it had hydraulics. I suppose you could find a parts tractor and fix that up.

Steve,
That is a very nice looking C in the pictures. Now this is a Allis guy, the G in the one picture tells you that. He may be a lot like you in fixing these smaller AC's up. He has a bunch of money tied up in it. The tires would be $1,000 probably. I dont know how rare they are but you dont seem them with wide fronts much. Good luck! Yea take the trailer what is the worst that could happen? You find its real nice, settle on $3250 and load it up! Probably biggest thing is it restored to your liking and quality level too? If you have to tear it down and do it again then $2500 - 2000 might be tops??? Just trying to help you here Steve:) Regards, Chris |

Its your money but that is a high price for a C,what he has in it has no bearing on what its worth and I can't imagine a C bringing over $1500 no matter what unless it was something
like a high crop. |

Thanks Chris. I had to go to a funeral yesterday and couldn't get over to see it (It's about 3.5 hours from me). However, the man called me and asked if I was interested. I told him it was out of my price range at $3500. He dropped to $3000. I told him that was still to steep for me. He asked what I'd pay, I said $2500 possibly after seeing it. He said no. As Gary said, it's just bit too high a price--even at $2500. Even still, I know he has $1000 (at least) in new rims, tires and tubes. The painting is the hardest part. If it sits for a while, maybe he will come down. I hope so. Good luck with your 45. Steve |

I agree 100%. A CA is a lot more tractor and there are a lot of them available in the $1500 - $2000 price range.
