I have a late model CA with a snap coupler. My others are early CAs. I was looking at the AM numbers on the sides of them and found that my late model snap coupler CA has a different AM number on the right hand side...they all have the arrow head shaped extrusion to the right of the dipstick. I like things original... Could it be that my late model has the wrong motor?
Early CA Numbers AM 2916 33
Later CA Numbers AM 4033 1

I just went and looked at mine and it has the early CA Numbers AM 2916 3.
As far as I can see, mine only has one 3 on it.

I've got an additional question Steve, my engine serial # has a PA after it.  I can't find anything on this?  #  CA 168xxx PA   I know it wasn't made in Pennsylvania.....What does PA stand for?

Mine has a PA as well. I thought i read somewhere that meant something unique???? Might be wrong

That number is a casting number. casting numbers changed every time there was a new pattern made, or at least when there was an engineering change in the casting.
 PA is a gas designation for a later model engine , probably with a bit higher compression than a GA engine.

Ok. Yes that sounds right the PA engine has higher compression. Does this mean the PA serialed Engines may be a bit snappier?

There was no distinction for military blocks that I know of. I think Dick may have hit on it when he posted this. "Maybe and that is a (just maybe) a run of block castings were made as replacement parts after the last production tractors were assembled."

I don't think any 2916 block will have the casting for the fuel pump. My guess is the casting number changed when they added the material for the fuel pump.
How long was the 125 power unit still available after CA production ended ?
 
The last digit on the casting number is the date code.
 
I think 1938 was -10.

I just found some pictures of a couple too. The date code numbers are high 20's? or 30 on those?

That "date code" doesn't date the block worth a hoot. I have a 51CA with the original engine. My Dad bought the tractor new in 1951, and the "date code" says its a 1956 block, but the tractor number and engine number are BOTH early 1951.
 I have talked to other people with similar tractors.
