Ive got some WC war time questions. How many had the steel rear ends, what year were they built an what is one worth that has weather checked mis matched rears an bent up tin all around with paint that looks to be put on with a brush in the 1980's but does run. Thanks for any help. Im just looking for a rough number on price.

Pics would help most. 
I'd say (keep in mind I'm no expert) maybe $500, if the tin is all bent up and the tires are as rough as you say. Maybe there's a collector who would pay more? I don't know.

Its the square rear end but as far as as cover im not sure.

Pretty much the same price of any WC. Look at the casting by the wheels. They get beat up. I used the best of 2 war time rear ends to get one good one.

I have a 1945 cast iron rear end WC and a 1946 steel rear end WC. I think they used what they could get their hands on throughout the war and for a year or so afterwards. I doubt there ever was a serial number list determining which was used when.

I have a steel rear end one.  dont think its worth any more than the others.  at one time i had heard that it was lighter than the cast and some pullers wanted it, but i think its very minimal
