Hi, is the thermostat on top, under the four bolts in the housing or is it in the block behind the thermostat housing? Thanks

Both thermostats are right on top just below where the upper rad hose connects.

Be ready for broken bolts if they haven't been out in a while.

Six bolts, not four.

Strike the head of the bolt a good hard lick or two with a hammer. Do it over if you have too. This relieves the clamping force of the bolt so that all you have to deal with are the threads.

Smacking them is OK, but it usually takes quick torch heat right to the area of the bolt threads to get the aluminum housing to expand and let go of the bolt.

Maybe put a bit of never seize on the bolts when installing…just for next time.

Thanks for the tips to remove the thermostats. I used a little heat, hit the bolt head with a hammer and they came out with ease.
