    Posted: 07 Jul 2017 at 10:16pm
Tonight I put a new rebuilt alternator on my 210...I have been fighting dead batteries for the year I have owned it.  I have new batteries and new cables and new alternator in it now.  I volt tested at the alternator and the battery and it shows it is not charging (12.3 volts).  I have power to the alternator and have tested the ground wire to the alternator also...if I unhook the field terminal it should charge no matter what correct?  It still only reads 12.3 volts.  Alternator is spinning good and freely.  Did I just get a bad rebuilt or what else can I test.  Thanks for any help.

I haven't worked on our 210 yet, it is still a project waiting, but by the looks of the parts book is has a remote voltage regulator up under the dash cover like the other hundred series, and Two Twenty/D21 tractors.  I would look there.  Also check your grounds on that regulator.

You need the field terminal to be connected. I presume you have an external regulator, since you mention the field terminal. If you don't have an external regulator and your alternator has a field terminal, I would presume that you have the wrong alternator installed. If you have an external regulator and it is connected, that regulator may be your problem.

I had the same symptoms on our 210 it was voltage regulator on the hood under the cowl cover like others guys have said. I did have one other time we were having trouble and it was a bad ammeter gauge.
