I just purchased a D17, we had one many years ago.. I thought all D17s had power steering, this one seems manual.. is this possible. I added oil to  the front steering block. No change.  The tractor runs great, also included was a AC snap coupler bush hog... bonus!!

Not all D17 had power steering. Early ones had the power steering pump by distributer, later had pump on bracket

Power steering was optional equipment.  Became more popular during its production though.

Do you have a pump, like Steve above describes?

Do you have a steering ram?  Look on the Right side (Operator Seated Viewing) behind the frame rail next to the oil pan rail.  Coming off the front bolster there should be a cylinder, if you have power steering from the factory, if there is a block off plate you do not have the PS option.
