I have a 7 ton Model 700 (stenciled in black) running gear. The serial # is 7 6566. I was wondering if any one would know how to track what year this came out in? The wagon does not have a rocking, spring or rigid bolster. Just the 4 stakes bolted to the axles. Has a telescoping hitch. Will attempt to post a picture??//!

Randy, that's a nice AC running gear. Thanks for sharing. I'd guess from viewing its rear decal (Allis-Chalmers), its age would be near late 1950s-early 1960s. After that, later decals had a white background.

The first AC power feed silage box (supplied by Calhoun Co., Cedar Falls, Iowa) production was marketed from about 1959-1962. It was usually monted on a 7 ton gear. 1964& later Power feed boxes were built by AC at Laporte - courteous Norm Swinford's 1914-1985 AC Equipment book.

I have a 1966 AC running gear brochure. It covers models 300, 405, 500, 505, 701, & 1000. They all have the newer AC decal with white background.

The cream wheels should indicate 1960 and newer, unless AC applied the new paint scheme earlier

The I.D. tag shows a postal zone code, i.e. "1" instead of a ZIP code--which would date the tag to 1963 or before. R. Musgrave

Thanks for all the responses trying to track down the year this wagon was made. I was hoping the serial # would would give a specific year. We are going to make an "In Memory Of" for our friend from Wisconsin who was nice enough to sell it to us. He passed away last November.
Will try to post a picture of the Model 700 stencil. |
