My D14 runs good but think there is something off in the governor. When adjusting the throttle it either runs at low idle or a slight movement of the throttle and it will be almost wide open. Anyone else have this before? Planning to pull the cover on the governor today or tomorrow, just curious what I need to look for to make it right.

What has been done to cause this ??? did you just have the carb or manifold off of the engine?? Sounds like a linkage synch issue, not internal.

When the weight assembly is worn out, you could get this problem.
Back in the day, we would replace the weights and pins, but if the gear casting and pivot points for the weights is worn then you need the whole works new. If a weight comes off in an Allis engine, the results are not fun Lots of engine damage can occur. I have seen gear teeth broken off. and it could even lock up the engine or worse. Check all the linkages as stated above, for wear at the connections. Worn parts in a governor system are more likely your problem than fuel system problems, but at least checking the governor weights out is fairly easy to do. HTH |

This engine had sit for some time before I got ahold of it. It seems to run great and have excellent compression. The throttle is just touchy (and not in a good way). I notice as well when it is running and you push in the clutch peddle the engine seems to rev a little more higher yet.

With the engine off, set the hand throttle wide open. Above the generator, remove the cotter pin from the governor link rod. Drop the link rod out of the governor arm hole. The governor arm shouldn't move forward at all. If so, remove the link rod from the carb and start taking some of the bends out of it to make it just the correct length. A drop of oil on each end of the link rod is a good idea. Linkage should move back and forth freely.
