Have any of the restorers on here used a spray metal process to fix rusted out fenders, body parts, rims or sheet metal? I have heard of this process for building up shafts. There are some neat youtube videos. The equipment for this looks expensive.

The universal answer to all questions is yes, how much do you want to spend?

Epoxy is way cheaper. Spray welding fumes are not fun to breathe either. Unless you need to heat shrink a bearing on a shaft, products like Belzona 1111 supermetal are cheaper to use and have excellent strength.

Before applying ANY epoxy, proper surface prep is necessary.
Grit blast the surface to a near white 3 mil finish , utilizing a coarse angular abrasive such as black beauty. Belzona 1111 is an awesome product. Easy to use Far superior to JB Weld or Devcon.

I know a couple guys that use spray welders mostly to repair old non-replacable manifolds on rare tractors. Takes some practice, not cheap and most of all, like stated earlier, fumes are dangerous.
