 Topic: D14 steering wheel removal

After much encouragement and muscle, I was able to remove the nut on the steering wheel. The steering wheel will not budge. Is there a trick to removing it? I want to take it off and replace it. It is badly cracked. I'm a little hesitant to heat it as rubber is all around and gas tank is not far away. Any help is always appreciated.

no roll pin if your's has a nut retaining it. you can use a puller and a little bit of heat. or use the puller and a air hammer from the bottom of the wheel to knock it loose. obviously your not worried about any damage to the steering wheel if your replacing it. wrose comes to wrose you can cut the plastic off to get to the metal core to put your heat on and puller on.

The parts explosion does not show a roll pin, but does show a snap ring. Go here: http://www.agcopartsbooks.com/PartsBooksN/login.aspx?region=NorthAmericaBeside Guest user click View Books. Under Search by Model, enter D14. Where it says All Brands, pull down AGCO Allis. Click Search. Click on D14 Tractor. Scroll down to Axle ... Steering Shaft & Support Blow up the parts diagram and have a look.

I had to cut the hub on my d17 steering wheel to get it to come off. Make a cut with a grinder with a cutoff wheel inline with the steering shaft but don't go all the way thru because you can damage the splines underneath. Then use a chisel to split the hub open and it will come right off.

The snap ring is under the steering wheel and does not need to be removed to get the steering wheel off. For all of mine, I use heat, penetrating oil, a gear puller and plenty of cursing.
