I went and looked at a 7000 maroon belly tractor today and it's got transmission issues. The problem is that the oil will start to turn black and it will start coming out around the gearshift leaver. Does anyone know what the problem may be?

Any idea on hours?
How long does the oil take to start coming out? Are the oil levels correct? What is the age of the oil? Any more information you can provide would help... ~Warren

7,500 hours and the man would run it until it would do itand I think when it would turn black he would change it and he would use the side sight glasses to check it

There is a plug forward of reverse idler shaft. This plug has about a 3/4 hole in it. Get that plug out will help that problem in cold weather. MACK

Mack ,
What about the breathers on top of the trans? Maybe they are plugged and need a cleaning? |

Well where else could oil be getting in it at the man said it looked like motor oil but it's a dry clutch tractor kind of got me puzzled. The man was cutting hay with it then it started messing up.

The shaft seal on the hydraulic pump could be sucking motor oil into the hydraulic system causing this. Engine oil would be going down if this was happening and hyd oil would be gaining. Power Shift clutches are hydraulically activated.
