AllCrop 40 in Soybeans

Seeing that video reminds me of some All Crop 40 stories.

One, a rather well to do man who had a large quarry and a large farm around it  was skeptical of this new All Crop Harvester.  He said he would buy it but not a big one just the 40.  We told him he had too much ground for the 40 but he was adamant and insisted that we sell him the 40.  We did and much to our dismay he called to see when it could be delivered.  My father wisely told us that we WERE NOT to deliver them to the customers till the grain was dead ripe.  This gentlemen had his Secretary call every half hour insisting that the grain was ready for harvest.  Well, it was for binders where it would ripen in the shock but not for an All Crop.  Pop knew that if it went out too soon it would be in the unripe grain and he would have a hard time selling them.  Finally the grain was ripe and we delivered his 40 to his rather large farm - a bagger.  We hardly ever sold a bin.  Well, his farm manager Fred Gartland spent the rest of the harvest season riding around the large acreage with a 40.  Finally, our customer came back one day to see if we had the larger 60.  We did and delivered it to him the next day. 

Then I think of our attorney on his hobby farm cleaning out the separator from the inside of the combine.  The separator shifted and he was trapped inside with no one on the outside to help.  Being a wise man he put his fingers through the openings in the side of the combine and inched the large pulley around till the separator moved and freed him.

Funny what memories that video brings back.
