Hi all thank you for any info you can give me. I have been hating for the last few years with a 180. Recently the shaft that holds reverse gear has vibrated back into the rear end causing the gear to fall off. I'd like to know if anyone has a suggestion as to how to access the shaft in the rear end with out splitting the old girl in two. The shaft is still horizontal in the hole of the case but too far into the rear end to grab. I did find the head of what I assume is the retaining bolt in the sump. Any info is much appreciated! Thanks

Remove rear lift housing and you can remove broken bolt then push pin back in place. MACK

Hi all so I have the 180 in the shop to warmup for the night before I start removing the rear lift hardware. Do you have any suggestions on getting the housing free from the pto shaft? Just wondering if it's just a seal or if there are any retaining hardware concerns before I start removing it. Thanks for any information.

Drain PD and rear end housing, remove three bolts holding cap, then just pull It out. May have to tap on shaft to start it out. If it is a two speed, just pull rear housing off. MACK

So I got everything apart and made repair to the shaft and gear. Put everything back together filled with new fluid. Shifter doesn't want to go into neutral and when I put it in reverse it stalls the tractor or would if I let the clutch out. Didn't force anything cause I know how that works out. Reinstalled gear matching the tooth wear and by measuring and matching the spacing on the shift forks. Is something obvious I'm missing? I moved couplers in gear set to what I thought was neutral and forks slipped in and cover bolted on fine. Goes in forward gears but seems to have to much travel in reverse.

Take the shift cover back off. Put the shifter in 2nd gear and move the shift collar in the transmission into 2nd gear and reassemble.

Ok I will do that. Is that the coupler closest to the engine?

No. Leave that one in neutral. It's the rear coupler, slide it forward.
