My 1936 WC has a very sloppy gear leaver it swings from left to right about 12" and its difficult to find the right gears when on the run, its not a big deal but was wondering if this is normal or is there something worn on the shifter, I was thinking to remove the shifter and take a look if there is something obvious thats causing this issue but before i do i thought better I ask the experts for advice from past experience on such issues, if its normal then i will leave well alone

most of them have a good swing to them. there like that a lot. have some that are that way' if it's not broke'' don't fix it' the old saying.

It's caused by wear in the locating pin and also the slot that the locating pin rides in in the shift tower. I have repaired several of those by welding up the worn edges of the slot and re-cutting it and replacing the worn out square headed pin.

The trick on the WC/WF shifter is getting the shifter out and then re-assembling the parts. The shifter lockout is a little tricky to get back together. I usually remove the top trans cover and then take it apart on the bench. Trying to pull the shift lever out with it on the tractor usually ends up with pieces falling down into the bottom of the transmission.
