My 40 B all the sudden lost a lot of it's engine power yesterday. It sounded as though the exhaust system is clogged somehow. I pulled the intake / exhaust manifold and found a couple of cracks in it. Welded those and reassembled. No change. Any ideas as where to go from here?

Is it hitting on all 4 or you missing spark on 1 plug.  Check for good fuel flow at carb.

I do not have all the particulars but usually when a tractor loses power under load my first suspect is - cheap, the condenser, more costly the Coil
Can't have my favorite not running well.
Let us know how it goes.
Good Luck!

It is hitting on all 4 cylinders and the air filter is clear. I just put a newly rebuilt magneto on it this summer and have very few hours on that. It doesn't reach the higher RPMs as it did a day ago. Would the governor have anything to do with it?

You could disconnect the rod to the carburetor and manually throttle up on the carburetor linkage itself to see if that makes a difference.

Could also check to see if your mag bolts came loose and the magneto rotated. If the timing adjustment you can do by rotating the mag gets off and retards the timing it will seem like its lugging or loaded at full throttle even when its not.
