First thank you for the activation! A lot of good info on here. I have a 190 XT that has typical tranny issues. On mine the thrust washer disintegrated and took out a couple of gears and the pinion shaft splines. I'm having a hard time finding gears (its prior SN# 9001). My question is, can anyone tell me if the gears and shafts out of a 200 will fit or if a 200 transmission will bolt up? Thank you in advance!

The gears from a 200 will not work, but the 200 transmission will bolt up. MACK

Would the input shaft be an issue then?

I believe the input shaft and first reduction gear on counter shaft are different

A 190 XT prior to s/n 9001 was a unit that should have received the complete driveline update about 45 plus years ago. Everything inside should be the same as any other 190 XT, or 180-185. One part that could be different would be low gear on a late 180-185. They could be a different ratio. Most everything else should interchange. Some of the 200 parts would fit, but not all.

Would the gear layout then be the same as a 9001 or later? Mine is still the same layout as prior to 9001. Wondering if it was never updated.

It shouldn't be. The best way for me to describe the updated transmission parts is this.....the splined main shaft (pinion shaft) is one diameter all the way from back to front (with exception of the nose). The old parts (which are NOT available any more) the main shaft was two diameters.....smaller where 3rd gear is.....larger at the rear.

If your splined thrust washer between 2nd and 3rd gear is broken, that's the newer pinion shaft (I think).

Thrust washer is in about 4 pieces but it is the two different sized splined shaft.

NONE of those parts are available. Find a different rear end or junk the tractor.

So if they could be updated back then, why can't they be updated now? Is it because the parts to update are no longer available?
Seems like a good thing to keep in mind if I ever buy a 190XT |

The parts would cost much more than the tractor is worth.

Is this a gas XT ?? I can't believe a fire-breathing XT diesel would have gone this long without ripping teeth off of second gear while plowing. This scenario only affects XT's built prior to s/n 9001. It's easy to tell by driving the tractor. If low 3rd is slower than high second.....it's never been updated. Don't go by the shift decal because some of those didn't get swapped. The proof is in the driving.

Its a diesel. 1965 and it seems to have the older pinion shaft still.
I did find the gears I need though. Two I found used but 10% wear.

You're a lucky man !! The 10% wear on those parts is the fact that they are gears that were REMOVED from a tractor for the installation of the new HD updated parts !!

Just a question was the early 190 the same as a D19 or are they different?

D-19 and D-17 (series 3 and 4) were pretty much the same. The early mighty One-Ninety's were different than a D-19 regardless of what some say. On the exterior they look like a D-19 rear end, but they are different inside, especially the transmission.

70245766 was the ring gear and pinion that fit the 190 prior to sn 8250 and the late d19's.
The gears were different - anyone who enters either one that has been into will probably find a rigged mess - we always have - mixed parts etc.
