good day all, looking for info on 190xt tach cable. My tach does not work and have the cable disconnected from tach and now at the block where it attaches. Just wondering if anyone else has encountered any tach issues? I am going to put one end in a drill and try to rotate it to see if there is a breakage but after that i am outta knowledge.

The cable is probably broken inside the sheathing somewhere. Mine was like that when I bought it. New ones are pretty cheap. If the cable is good, your gauge is done. Not hard to figure out.

Priced out the cable and its $92.50 Cdn hate to see what a tach cost. I am looking forward to lots of use out of the old girl. Presently moving and loading round hay bales with her and am going to hook up a cultivator and break start breaking up a small hayfield tomorrow. Really glad to have found this forum as I am pretty novice with this type of equipment an the maintenance of it.

I spent five bucks at the local auto parts store got a universal speedometer drive cable. It's just the insert. Cut to length and install the end. My tach works. If it goes out again I'll replace the complete cable instead of jut the insert.

If you're tach actually is bad, I would consider getting it repaired vs. buying a new one. A new one is probably cheaper, but I've heard they're cheaply made. If you get your old one repaired, you can keep the hours on it too! The tach on my 185 is going bad and I'm puling it this winter for repair. Bill Deppe has a company that repairs them. FOr some reason I'm thinking it costs about $250, and I can't remember if that includes a new cable. PM me if you want Bill's number.

Cable was broken inside the sheathing so bought a cable kit and found that the way the sheathing was routed the cable was the cause of the breakage. Ordered a complete new cable. Did check the tach while i had a cable end to use so hooked it to an electric drill and gave her a spin, settled right in at 800rpm so I am confident that all willl be good when i get the new cable assembly installed. Thanks all for your help and suggestions.
