I also got this unit at the same estate auction. To me (from my Google Searches) it looks similar to a Fertilizer Side Dresser for an Allis Chalmers G tractor, but it doesn't look exactly like the ones I've seen in pictures. Please chime in with any information you may have.

Like Fred said its the early style hopper, from looking at the picture of the G with the 2 row mounted planter there isn't enough room for fertilizer hoppers and drive. There appears to be several different fertilizer distributor and planter options that were offered for the G going by the books I have. |

Ok. So I'm guessing that the fertilizer unit isn't part of that planter. Does it even fit a G or does it fit something else?
The ones I have seen on a G in pictures on the internet show a 2 row fertilizer. This one only has 1 hopper.

It looks like the side dressing attachment for a G.
You would use it with the cultivators to apply fertilizer. The is a sprocket the mounts onto the rear wheel to drive it via a chain to the small sprocket on the attachment. There is a rod the attaches to the cultivators and the clutch that is next to the small sprocket. This would stop the fertilizer when the cultivators are raised at the end of the row. Both items that you bought are 'GOOD FINDS'. Bob

Thank you!! If I recall there was another planter there missing the hoppers that went for $10. I should have gotten it too but figured I bought enough. What would you say the fertilizer attachment is worth complete and working......and what is it worth in parts as it sits now. ?

I have seen the planters go for in the $500.00 range.
The chain is fairly common and the sprockets show up on ebay from time to time. The side dresser might be worth a $100. or more. Bob
