Tractor got stuck between gears and is still in the field with the brush cutter . was in a forward gear . I pulled the cover . messed around and got in neutral . Thought I had the cover and levers in the correct spot . put it back together and was stuck in reverse now .  Pulled it off again and noticed the the wire on the center rail is broken . The rail does not want to slide or turn as easily as the other two . The two outer ones seem to have the lever at the end . Has the center moved or how do I know ? How do I get this thing back together correctly ?  thank you for your help

the center rail in picture is first and second gear, the one that comes around from the left side of picture is third and fourth gear and the right rail is the reverse rail.
Book says to have transmission collars in neutral and the shift cover in neutral and then set it down with the two special dowel type bolts for aligning transmission cover... using the front left hole by the hydraulic fill hole and the rear right hole.
There are interlocking pins in the housing that prevent any rails from shifting when one is being engaged into gear. And the book says new short interlocking pin should measure .551" and a newer interlocking pin measures .566" in length.... a new longer interlocking  plunger should measure 1.691"

I am still struggling . I kind of worked the 3rd and 4th rail back an forth until it pulled out and dropped the detent ball . Not on purpose of course ! I got it put back in easily enough . it still seems as though the middle rail has some hang up in it . In order to get it apart it looks like I have to take set screw off and one of  the levers off to get the rail to slide out .
I am not sure if the end with the broken wire is in the correct place or not as it is now . Should I take the rail apart and maybe run a scotch brite pad on it . Is there a measurement  or how to I know where to put the lever back on the rail and tighten the set screw if I have to take it apart ?
Thank you

Put transmission in 2nd gear, move shift rail to 2nd with shift lever in 2nd slot. Drop cover straight down. May not hit all shift collars first time so line every thing again and retry. MACK

Mack is correct. Just replaced 3/4 shift fork on my 190xt. I&T shop manual says put in second gear then pull/replace the shift cover. There are alignment holes drilled in the shafts that the shift forks mount to so you can't mess the settings up. You are in second gear when 1/2 shift gear is pulled or positioned all the way toward the front of the tractor. To help visualize it put the cover on your work bench and "shift" it to second. Good Luck! It is easier than it sounds.
