   So, we tried to use my chopper in corn this weekend, and let's just say we wasted more time unplugging it then we actually did chopping.  Has anyone ever played with one of these old girls? Initially the stalks would just lay down parallel with the gathering chains in the head. Mine has 2 speed adjusting pulleys, one on the wobble box. And the other on the corn head.  So we slowed the head down and it finally started feeding up the head, but now it just bunches up in the corner. Couple years ago when I first played with it I removed the metal guide inside the head that holds the stalks to the chains, it seemed to feed a lot better after I took it out. Wondering now if I maybe need to put it back in being the head is slowed down and feeding properly up until the corner. 

Anyone else have any tricks?

	First make sure you are cutting the stalk off clean and fast. You might want to reinstall the spring. Ive seen where it helps to take them out and put them back in. Do you have the adjustable height axles? You might need to raise up the chopper if you do. The first load is always a bear, you need to get a shine on the head so it starts to slide in there. You could try spraying it with slip plate. That might help. Tricky machine to run but you can chop with a lot of capacity and take little horsepower.

	Adjustable axles? I'm thinking mine doesn't have that. Lol And we were wondering that, the more it gets used the better it will work. But it sure gets frustrating after a while. We put some graphite on the corners but it didn't help much. Was worth a shot at least. I think the corn might have been a little too wet too. And I know my knives need to be sharpened, but I don't have a stone, and I was more worried about the head not feeding.

	I have no fond memories of those choppers....spent more time walking the pto shield to unplug than I want to remember. Dad even had the extra rollers installed in our original chopper as a factory update I believe...seemed corn was either too tall or too short! It was a poor design from the start, and to top it off the cutter bars just wore in the middle when using the cornhead, so sharpening them took a lot of time.

	We had an Allis chopper back in the 50's, filled a 16' by 60' plus two 12' x 30' and did several custom jobs. Was a slick running outfit. When neighbors saw how fast we could fill a silo they'ed call us. usually it was just the two of us. once in a while we'd get help from them, but not very often. Harold
