Ok most of you know I'm rebuilding a WD45 engine top to bottom for my WD45. Well I may be changing directions a little. I bought a complete running D17 today lol. It is a early one with bypass oiling so I will still have to convert that part. # is 7464. Will it still have the crank that gives full oiling to the rod bearings?
I already have a rebuilt WD45 governor/housing, distributer, head, and timing cover that is 100% ready to go this will all swap over to the D17 block correct?
I also already have my WD45 clutch kit. Will this work with the D17 flywheel? Can I change it to a WD45 flywheel? I also already have a NOS D17 7.25:1 piston kit.

The d17 cranks were all the Same and had the full rotation grooves cut into the main bearings to oil the rods. Has more to to with the bearing than the crank.
This is all just opinion now since no one has answered yet.
You'll have to use your wd45 flywheel and clutch bc the d17 flywheel would be too big to fit into the bell housing.
The heads are the same.
I don't think you could use your wd45 timing cover. The end of the 17 crank is bigger and takes a different cover and front main seal.
I'm not sure about distributor.
Why'd you decide to change blocks?

Can't use WD-45 timing cover unless you drill out the lower set of holes to 1/2".

Well mostly because of the better crank and better oiling to the rod bearings. Plus this block won't have to be line bored since there are no shims.

Add to the list posted above, use the D17 head on the D17 block,the D17 head used three 7/17" studs where as the WD45 used three 3/8" studs. I'd use the water pump off the WD45, drill the three 3/8" mounting holes in the WD45 pump out to 7/16"in it, the crankshaft pulley, drill the bore out and drill a new setscrew hole in the shaft , or you can just let the belt run but it will not line up to the D17 crankshaft pulley with the Wd45 water pump installed. If you use the D17 timing cover you might need to grind a little off the right side to clear the frame rail or grind some of the rail off. Check the clearance under the timing cover to front motor, you might need to shin it or grind some off it. If you use the WD45 manifold on the D17 head might need to drill the mounting holes out to 7/16" from the 3/8" holes the WD45 used. This is the short list.

Ive already had my WD45 head redone. So it looks like I'm not going to do the swap. I have way to much money in my WD45 parts I thought they would all swap over.

I don't need the tractor I just got it cheap. I cleaned points and carb and it runs great, no smoke, no noises in bottom end, good power. All the gears shift smooth, power director and pto work. Tires hold air but are shot so are the rear rims. All hand controls are complelty wore out and some have baling wire on them. Really just bought it to part out for more money to go towards my WD45.

I do like it already that's why I need to hurry up and sell it or part it. I can't keep it. I bought it to make some extra cash for my WD45, it was my Grandpa's. To be nice the D17 needs quite a bit of work but it does have a good engine and trans. Tires look like they are ready to blow any minute and rear rims are rusted out. I know how much more money I'm needing to complete my WD45 engine so that's why I'm leaning towards parting the D17. I didn't give much for it but with the wheel and tire problem neither is anybody else as a complete tractor.

I'm with Brian, keep it and pull an Eldon and switch the rears from the WD45 to the D17 and use it and rebuild your WD45 as money come's along, then after you get her ready switch them back, sell the D17 and don't get in a big rush on the WD45.
You need a backup for now. lol

The rim and tire I can see don't look bad at all. Sounds like you are trying to justify to yourself getting rid of it or parting it.
Why would you want to part out your grandpa's tractor?

The D17 isn't my Grandpa's tractor. The WD45 is and I'm 3,000 grand deep in a engine rebuild for it right now. I have the D17 in classifieds. I want to trade it for a good WD45 with good 4 bolt wide front and factory power steering.

Not sure how "worn" the D17 really is, but I sure enjoyed discing with mine (ours) today!
Lots of power and the power steering was very comfortable too! Just saying!:) The picture doesn't look any worse than mine. (but my rims are pretty good).

It's not a bad tractor it runs great. But I didnt buy it with the intentions of keeping. I'm not worried about nothing but my WD45 project. That's why I would like to trade for a good WD45 with 4 bolt wide front and factory power steering. Then I can do some parts swapping with the two WD4s.
