I have a WD45 and use it to pull a brush hog, even in 1st gear it seems to run to fast, bogs down a lot, have to take half dia. passes. Revving it up just adds to the bogging as its going faster into the weeds. My IH 440 had a low range, wish this WD45 had one, will it pull a 2 bottom plow the same way??
Any tips appreciatd.

You should have no problems pulling a 2 bottom plow, if you have a snap coupler plow you could possibly pull a 4 bottom depending on soil type and terrain. What size mower are you pulling? Is it in thick brush? You could put smaller tires on to slow it down some. I'm assuming it has 14.9-28 on now? 13.6-28 would help some.

Yes, big tires! Only have a couple acres so would get a 2 bottom cheap, retired....in no hurry. My hog is a Branson with 6' blade diameter.

Use the hand clutch when mowing. You can slip it all day and not hurt a thing. Makes it like variable speed if you get the feel of the clutch.

We had a mounted corn picker on the WD and it was to fast, so Dad would slip the hand clutch all day long. At noon and the end of the day smoke was coming out of the clutch cover. I remember removing shims from that clutch one time, that is one tough clutch!!

Thanks on the hand clutch, it does work and keeps engine from bogging down when going thru thick weeds! Big Branson bush hog works great with the WD45! I changed to an alternator and also a solenoid starter but it's stock the rest.

I have a 5' bush hog on my 45 Diesel, in 3rd it just growls a little in 3-5' weeds and grass. You want to be careful slipping the hand clutch, it will burn up too just like slipping the dry foot clutch, just takes a little longer because the oil only delays the inevitable

You might burn it out if you try slipping it while plowing. Most won't live long enough to go thru a second hand clutch on a WD or 45 if you're not using it under a heavy load. The only load when mowing is what it takes to roll the tractor and push over the grass in front of the mower.

Do you plan on pulling either of your tractors ?, or just using them around the place. I'm just over the mountains west of you in Oroville. I have 2 AC pullers, a WD and the wife's CA.

Might want to check how sharp the blades are on your mower. Dull blades will cause drag in thicker grass. Don't have to be razor sharp, but if they're round as a pencil, you might as well be swinging a club.
