After round bailing my pto is loose and leaking oil from around it. I know it's not the bolts for 540/1000 they are tight. It's the whole unit. Is this going to be a easy fix ? Or is it pretty in depth ? Do I have to drain the oil out of rear to do this or just park it on a hill ? Thanks for the help.

Large nut backed off shaft internally. Drain oil, remove rectangular plate under pto portion of rear housing to disassemble. Plan on putting both sets of seals and o-ring to fix your leak. Later tractors had a castellated nut with a pin using mechanics wire to prevent the problem of nut loosening up.

When you get it reassembled with new seals and adjusted properly for rolling torque, stake the nut and tack weld it so it won't come loose again. Either that, or get the shaft and castellated nut from a newer chassis so the nut can't come loose.

just guessing here but probably similar to a pinion adjustment.tight enough that it has a bit of "stick" to it when trying to turn but then rolls free on broke loose. my guess is they wanted enough preload so it couldn't slop around and get too loose after time....just a guess

One tiny dent, and I mean tiny, will put a ripple in the rubber seal. Takes special seal installing tools to get it right in some cases. I've never dealt with the PTO of a 7000 series.

Seals have to be installed squarely and damage free. O-ring seal needs to be lightly lubed with clear RTV and drawn in place slowly and squarely. I've never had one that needed to be a do-over.
